Jim Beck Recording Studio

For those of you who record music on a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), on a computer, this may be of interest.

In partnership with the Norman Petty Studios, we’ve faithfully modelled one of Norman’s heavily-modified Altec 1567A mixers, capturing its silky 1950s saturation and unique EQ curves. Originally built for radio broadcast, the Altec 1567A was rugged, loud, and simple—but its 12AX7 and 6CG7 tube stages gave it a rich harmonic character perfect for rock & roll. Norman Petty’s custom mods made it even more musical, giving guitars bite, vocals velvet smoothness, and drums a natural punch.
