George Atwood

George Atwood was born in 1920 in Alabama. He moved to Meridian, Mississippi, at the age of 5. He also lived in Quitman, Clark County, Mississippi. He was a professional session bass player and played for Buddy Holly when he recorded "Wishing", "Heartbeat" & "Love's Made A Fool Of You".

George was around twelve years older than Buddy at the time. He was a veteran Jazz session guy who over the years, had played with the Gene Krupa Band, The Dorsey Brothers, played sessions at Norman Petty's Studio in Clovis, played for Roy Orbison, Eddie Arnold and many others. He lent his playing also on Country/contemporary music of the time, as he played bass on numerous sessions at Norman Petty's Studio,

George was based in West Texas and performed/played for a lot of artists and bands at that time. On the Clovis Sessions Buddy played on as session guitarist at Norman Petty's Studio, George also played on some of those sessions. He played on Buddy's first attempts at producing others, and played bass on Waylon Jennings first record "When Sin Stops/Jole Blon" He may have played (?) on Buddy and Phil Everly's joint producing venture with Lou Gioradno at Beltone Studios in New York. (if anyone can confirm ?).

In January, Buddy had asked George and also Tommy Allsup to be involved in Buddy's plans for his new Record Label/Publishing Company (Prism/Taupe), and Recording Studio in Lubbock, Buddy's home town.

Norman Petty was also to be involved in it as was Ray Rush, from The Roses. Buddy Holly had major plans

According to a book called "The A-Z of Buddy Holly", by Alan Mann, George had physical plans/outlines of the recording complex, which had plans to also include rehearsal rooms, but also Mastering facilities.
