He is best known for exhaustively documenting Buddy Holly's sessions and recording details, contributing liner notes and extensive research to numerous archival releases and reissues. He authored the liner notes and historical details for releases like "Ohh! Annie!" - The 1956 Sessions and Tommy Allsup's "The Buddy Holly Songbook".
Ingman was a key contributor to The Crickets Fact File and is regularly credited by researchers for solving recording mysteries—such as correctly identifying Leon Russell on piano during late-era sessions. He helped compile various projects including the Buddy Holly – Rocks compilation for Charly Records.
